Womens Motorcycle Gear
Women’s motorcycle gear
is a specialty segment separate from men and boys gear. There are special
requirements for womens motorcycle gear and manufacturers
and retailers are finally beginning to understand this.
Helmets, boots jackets, pants and raingear are all essential for any
serious street rider. For women's motorcycle gear, there are sizing and design issues that need to be
addressed.
Jackets need to be rain resistant and shield from the wind. Vents are
important to cover the wide range of weather conditions that can occur in just a single day on the road. Fit
is critical for ease of movement, while still keeping out the wind.
The size differential for boots is obvious. Smaller feet need smaller
boots. In addition, your boots should be light flexible and comfortable. You don’t want to get to your
destination – even if it is home – with sore feet. Extra protection on top of the foot is a nice feature to
compensate for repeated use of the shifter with the left foot.
Perhaps the hardest to find piece of women’s motorcycle gear might be
pants. Many ladies, like guys just wear jeans and that’s fine but jeans won’t provide any added protection
when you take a spill. Many women riders insist on leathers because of the comfort provided by the way they
are cut and today, some manufacturers are making a separate line specifically to fit women. As an alternative
to riding pants, many women elect to go with leather chaps over their jeans.
Riding gloves are pretty much a must in most areas of the country if
you want to extend your riding season beyond summer. Velcro wrist closures and added protection at the
knuckle and fingers are all excellent features. Look for perforated leather or synthetic material for added
comfort. Look for moisture wicking lining, which is often fleece. You may have to buy smaller sizes of men’s
gloves, but there are some selections in colors and designs that appeal to women.
Of course you can really go wild with womens motorcycle gear including
packs, saddle bags, heating accessories and more. When you find a good retailer with an excellent array of
products specifically for women riders, stick with them.
